Welcome to February! I trust you're excited about CodeCon in March and you've registered. Here's what we've got on this month:

When: Thursday, February 20th, 18:00 for an 18:30 start
Where: Upstairs, Hotel Soho, 124 Davey St, Hobart. (Map)

  • 18:00 - early mingle, chin wagging, etc
  • 18:30 - Question and answer session, News of Note, LPI Quiz.
  • 19:00 - Michael Cordover - dm-crypt best practices, or how to keep medium level schmucks out of your data

If the attacker has physical access to your box then itís no longer your box - but that doesnít mean the attacker gets access to your data. This talk will explain how to set up full-disk encryption but keep your bootloader and key on a USB, keeping you safe from even the smartest attacker. Unfortunately these techniques won't work against the NSA, but we'll have a brief look at the final steps required to get to that point.
  • 20:00 - Meeting end. Dinner and drinks are available at the venue after the meeting.

Also in February:
22nd - Launceston meeting
14th-16th - CodeCon Tasmania - camping and coding, see you there!
20th - Hobart meeting - YOUR TALK HERE?
29th - Launceston meeting
17th - Hobart meeting - YOUR TALK HERE?
26th - Launceston meeting
24th - Statewide Meet-up - Ross Town Hall
20th - Software Freedom Day - events in Hobart and Launceston

Slides for last night: MJec's DM-Crypt Talk Slides

We had 8 people turn up to SoHo. I couldn't demolish my Monster Schnitzel even though I skipped lunch!

There was good discussion about Codecon, and upcoming talks in Hobart, eg an OpenStack night in April.

No quiz this month, so next time it will be twice as hard!
