TasLUG South : TasLUG August Meeting - Hobart
Posted by craige on 2013/8/12 20:58:35 (406 reads)

Welcome to August! I trust you've all recovered from PyCon Au and have your eyes firmly on Software Freedom Day which is less than a
month away:

When: Thursday, August 15th, 18:00 for an 18:30 start
Where: 69 Liverpool St, Hobart. (Map)

Agenda:

  • 18:00 - early mingle, chin wagging, etc
  • 18:30 - Question and answer session, Software Freedom Day discussion
  • 19:00 - Coding the KickSat: Using GNURadio for a crowd funded satellite
The KickSat project was funded 12 months ago on Kickstarter and involves a 'fleet' of more than 300 tiny "sprite" satellites, each with a solar panel, sensors, microcontroller and radio. Project backers are invited to use cheap TV tuner USB dongles to be a 'ground station' to receive signals from all the satellites and relay their data to the Internet.

As an aside, I'll be bringing along the LEAP motion thing for a (Windows) demo and possibly a quick look at hacking it to work on Linux, while we shake our fist at the decision by the creators to make it closed source.

  • 20:00 - Meeting end. Many people go to the Brunswick for dinner.

August:
31st - Launceston meeting
September:
14th - Software Freedom Day - Hobart and Launceston events
19th - Hobart Meeting - WE NEED A TALK REQUEST OR OFFER
28th - Launceston meeting

I think that SFD is on 21st September not the 14th.

Every day is software freedom day... but I think Attitude is right it's the 21st September. We should register an event.
